Are You Ready For Memorial Day Weekend?
Sunday, May 23, 2010
For our non-USA members, we celebrate Memorial Day in remembrance of our fallen soldiers every year on the last Monday of May. This started in 1866 after our Civil War had ended. It became a national holiday after World War I ended.
In a couple more weeks, our children will get out of school until September. So the weekend also marks the beginning of our Summer vacation season. Bar-b-ques, swimming pools, and vacation trips all start next weekend.
One other thing this Memorial Day weekend... You may have noticed some subtle changes in the ATW website over the last few weeks. Some of those changes are probably getting a little less subtle right now. :-)
One challenge our site has is that there's a LOT of stuff on it and that can make things hard to find. If I had known exactly what would end up on the site when we started it several years ago I could have put everything in place logically. Of course, I didn't know that so some things kind of "growed" organically.
I've been rearranging content lately and that part of the site update is nearly completed. You can see that sorting if you click on the left side links under "Member Resources" for the following content...
- Business @ Home - Computers & Software - Embroidery Designs - Generations Digitizing - Internet Life - Machine Embroidery - Newsletter Archives - Projects To Share - Quilting Essentials There are a few things left to update in those links still and a couple hundred articles that still need to be sorted into the right category, but hundreds of the articles and videos have been moved already. These 9 categories replaced about 40 categories that were more niche-focused but that made information harder to find here. We need EASY TO FIND instead! :-)
We will also be bringing together more of the design areas to make it easier to find designs and will be thinning down the number of forums in use too. These are all designed to make the site easier to navigate for everyone.
There are a couple other improvements that I'll go into next weekend when they are ready to go. I think you'll like them a lot.

All-Day Digitizing Workshop In
Indianapolis Saturday May 15th
There are 3 seats available for our workshop in Indianapolis on Saturday May 15th. Come spend the day with us and you'll probably learn more in one day about digitizing than you'd learn in a year or two on your own, at least that's what our students tell us every time we have this class!
Register here for the May 15th Indianapolis workshop. Deadline for registration is Thursday May 13th. http://atw.typepad.com/digitize_in_a_day/2010/05/15/index.html
The May "Test Drive Event" Is Sold Out!
The online "Test Drive Event" scheduled for May was a total sell-out. In fact, we have emptied the shelves at the Generations company warehouse of their test drive software packages and a few of our customers didn't get the test drive yet. The company has ordered more test drive packs and expect to have them in stock again in about 10 days.
Because of the shortage, Generations, will do another "Test Drive Event" in June. So if you're one of the folks who ordered a test drive but didn't get it, please contact me ASAP. We will either refund your payment OR ship you the software as soon as it comes in so you have an extra 2 or 3 weeks to play with it before the June 1st start date. Just let me know which you want me to do.
If you want to be in the June Test Drive Event, please go here to register... http://www.testdrive3.com

Thank you dekajo for posting this great picture in our photo gallery!
Note: When posting pictures showing an embroidery design in our photo gallery, please give credit to the digitizer as other members will want to know where to get those designs too!
Each photo posted in our photo gallery enters you into our weekly photo contest where we give away a 3 month membership to ATW. It's a random drawing so your photo doesn't have to show some wonderful one-of-a-kind project in order to be the winner.
Just do something, take a picture, and post it to our photo gallery!

(Note to members... when you post a photo in the gallery, it is automatically entered into the contest for that week's prize drawing. But, if the photo includes an embroidery design you must say what website or digitizer the design came from like mjaybee did with this photo, in order for it to win the prize for the week. If the design came from another digitizer, that's okay, you can still win with the photo, but we have to be able to credit the other digitizer's work or I can't post the photo here in our newsletter so I can't let that photo win. Okay? Cool. You guys rock! -- Larry)
